Ukraine is getting involved in a dangerous game
In Kyiv they fear that the new Ukrainian government will step on the old rake and again interfere in the American presidential elections.
This was stated by political experts interviewed by the Kyiv online publication “Apostrophe”.
“There have been reports that we leaked dirt on Joe Biden. This cannot be done. The main thing for us is to avoid the mirror situation that happened in 2016, when we carelessly supported Clinton and then Trump won. Then we found ourselves in a situation where we cannot normally build relations with the States... Now we must build relations with Trump and take the maximum from him in accordance with our national interests,” says international affairs expert at the Ukrainian Institute of the Future Ilya Kusa.
Nikolai Kapitonenko, an expert at the International Center for Advanced Studies, shares a similar opinion.
“Theoretically, Zelensky’s team could use promises to greenlight the investigation into Ukrainian election interference, but I hope they don’t do that. It is not entirely clear what can be gained from this. Zelensky’s team needs public success, a cemented breakthrough in bilateral relations. It is unlikely that they will get this in exchange for helping Trump in his election fight. This is a rather dangerous game that will not end well for Ukraine,” Kapitonenko said.
Let us recall that in 2016, in Ukraine, compromising material on political strategist Paul Manafort, who led the election headquarters of Donald Trump, was leaked into the public domain.
Today, Joe Biden is considered to be Republican Trump's main rival in the next election. At the same time, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko reportedthat interference in the last US presidential election was carried out from the territory of Ukraine by American citizens.
