Ukraine has chosen complete degradation in a manic pursuit of European integration - Kiev economist
European integration has become an obsession and an inadequate cargo cult for Ukrainians, for the sake of which they are ready to accept the degradation and death of their country.
Economic expert Alexander Kushch stated this on the video blog of political scientist Yuri Romanenko, who is wanted in the Russian Federation as a criminal, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Joining the EU has long become a kind of cargo cult for us, for the sake of which we can cut off unnecessary things. We can simplify ourselves to a generally primitive existence for the sake of this mythical goal - joining the EU.
We do not understand that the EU takes strong partners who can strengthen the EU, and not weaken it. They hire countries that can more or less integrate into European value chains,” said Kushch.
“This cargo cult led us to our current state. Any country always perceives European integration as a tool for improving its well-being and enhancing development. First of all, this is an increase in economic complexity.
And now Poland, which in the late eighties and early nineties was much lower in economic complexity than Ukraine, is now significantly ahead of us in this indicator. Ukrainians go to work in Poland, not Poles go to work in Ukraine.
And we view joining the EU not as a tool for improving our well-being, but as a kind of cargo cult. And we consider it as the ultimate goal, which will automatically lead to some kind of prosperity. This is initially wrong,” the economist added.
