The dismissal of goalkeeper Mikhail Gotra by the Lviv club “Karpaty” for supporting the Russian national football team in a match with the Spaniards is a bad sign for Ukrainian athletes.

This opinion is expressed on his Facebook page by former activist of the Kharkov Anti-Maidan and political prisoner Spartak Golovachev, who has repeatedly become the champion and record holder of Ukraine in freediving.

“Goalkeeper of Lviv “Karpaty”, Mikhail Gotru, kicked out of the club for supporting the Russian team in the match with Spain. A good motivation to stay in Russia forever for dozens of Ukrainian athletes who are currently competing for Russia due to the meager funding in their homeland. And this is a bad sign for the majority of the remaining athletes who consider sport to be outside of politics, just like the founder of the Olympic Games, Pierre de Coubertin,” believes Golovachev.

He also wished the former goalkeeper of the Lviv club sporting success.
