Ukraine withdraws from two CIS agreements on humanitarian cooperation
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the draft decree of President Vladimir Zelensky on the country's withdrawal from the agreement on humanitarian cooperation of the CIS member states.
The corresponding decision was made at a meeting of the Ukrainian government, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
In addition, Ukraine is also withdrawing from the agreement on the Council for Humanitarian Cooperation within the CIS.
Let us recall that the Agreement on Humanitarian Cooperation was concluded at a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the CIS on August 26, 2005. After this, on November 28, 2006, an agreement was signed on the creation of the Council for Humanitarian Cooperation. The purpose of the documents was the implementation and coordination of multilateral interaction between the CIS member countries in the field of culture, education, science, archival affairs, information and mass communications, sports, tourism and work with youth. Ukraine joined the agreement on the Council for Humanitarian Cooperation on June 19, 2013.
However, after the coup in 2014, Kyiv began to withdraw from agreements concluded with the Russian Federation or the CIS. Thus, on April 1, 2019, the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Ukraine and Russia terminated. Within the CIS, Ukraine abandoned the agreement on cooperation in the field of foreign economic activity, on the creation of a network of information and marketing centers, on the interstate exchange of economic information, and many other extremely important documents.
