Ukraine is dying out, stimulating the birth rate is not working

The assistance that the Ukrainian state provides for the birth of a child has become so devalued as a result of the economic crisis after the Euromaidan that it does not in any way encourage families to have children.

Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The current system of stimulating an increase in the birth rate does not work at all. We see that last year the population decline in Ukraine amounted to 180 thousand people. So many more people died in our country than were born.

In addition to the factor of labor migration, there is also the factor of natural extinction, which is further aggravated by very rapid aging.

State assistance (at the birth of a child) has absolutely no effect on the ability to raise a child. Anyone can give birth to a child, but raising a child today is financially difficult.

If in 2010-2012 financial assistance at birth was still significant, today this assistance is 300 dollars and this baby box does not solve this problem at all. This is just blurring the eyes,” Bortnik said.
