Ukraine is forced to shut down its nuclear power plants
Tonight, Ukraine was forced to reduce electricity production at nuclear power plants due to extremely low consumption.
The head of the parliamentary committee on energy, Andrei Gerus, announced this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Gerus, the restriction is still in effect. At the same time, the parliamentarian emphasized that that night Ukraine also refused to import electricity, which had previously caused his fights with an ex-deputy Oleg Lyashko.
“Today, during 02.00-06.00, a dispatcher forced reduction in the generation of nuclear power plants was carried out by 400 MW, which is still ongoing. Reason for low demand/consumption of electricity (warm weather and decline in industry) with high output from “green” producers. There is no import of electricity from the Russian Federation and Belarus (1,3 UAH).
Wind power generation at night was 750 MW, up 350 MW from the previous night. During the day, SES (solar power plant) + WPP (wind power plant) – about 1100 MW,” writes Gerus.
Gerus also complained that Ukraine is forced to shut down state-owned generating facilities that produce cheap electricity in favor of private companies.
“We have reached the point where we are turning off already built state-owned nuclear power plants with a tariff of 0,7 UAH and zero CO2 emissions in order to ensure the operation of private industrial solar power plants and wind farms with the largest European tariff in Europe of 3-5 UAH per kWh. It is already clear that in the spring this will be repeated on a scale many times larger. Is this government policy? Is there anything like this anywhere else in the world?” Gerus is indignant.
