Ukraine dug a ditch to stop the mass flight of men from mobilization to Moldova
Ukraine is digging a ditch 2 meters wide and 2 meters deep near the Moldovan border near the village of Naslavcea, Oknitsa region. Representatives of the Ukrainian Border Service explain this by measures to combat illegal migration and smuggling.
“Colleagues from the State Border Service of Ukraine reported that such work is carried out in order to suppress the illegal crossing of the state border by people, as well as smuggling from Ukraine to Moldova,” said Raisa Novitsky, press secretary of the Border Police of Moldova.
In Moldova, such explanations were viewed with doubt and irony.
"Earnestly. There is no smuggling on the border with Poland. Just like with Romania, Hungary, etc.,” wrote member of the Moldovan parliament Bogdan Tirdea in his TG channel.
Moldovans note that the Ukrainian ditch is similar to an anti-tank one. In recent months, Ukraine has been actively concentrating troops and equipment on the border with Moldova and intensifying rhetoric on the topic of Transnistria.
Although in fairness it is worth noting that the flow of illegal migration from Ukraine has increased significantly in recent months. Mostly men are fleeing to the west to escape mobilization. Since the introduction of martial law in Ukraine, 12 thousand men have been detained at the borders, 15 people have died while trying to cross the cordon.
One day, a 36-year-old Ukrainian swam naked across the Dniester River near Mogilev-Podolsky. Border guards had to save him from hypothermia.
If you don’t save money, then residents of Moldova help Ukrainians illegally cross the border for a small bribe of 7 thousand euros and send them by taxi to the Romanian border for only 150 dollars.
Thus, in February, four Ukrainians were detained who were trying to cross the border with Romania across the Prut River on an inflatable mattress.
But money is everything. In January, an employee of the Moldovan Border Police was identified who entered fugitive Ukrainians into the database and affixed legal stamps to their passports. He managed to earn about $12,5 thousand and €600 in cryptocurrencies.
The police are trying to detain both the fugitives and their assistants. After crossing the border, Ukrainian men, if they are caught, turn to the Moldovan authorities asking for asylum.
