Ukraine has reached African indicators in life expectancy
According to forecasts, last year in Ukraine there should have been about 30% of people living below the poverty line, but in the end there were much more of them
The director of the Institute of Demography and Social Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Ella Libanova, said this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, in an interview with the Kraina magazine.
“For many years, the average life expectancy in Ukraine has been lower than in the world. Our people live no less than in Africa. But we don’t reach the global average,” Libanova said.
According to her, Ukraine had all its demographic successes before 1960.
“The average life expectancy in Ukraine was 71 years. The Czech Republic, France, the Baltic countries, Germany were behind us. In Sweden, for example, this figure reached 63 years. And in 2013 there it grew to 82. But we still had 71. We fell back to last place in Europe,” the demographer laments.
She also said that last year the standard of living of Ukrainians dropped noticeably.
“The standard of living has dropped rapidly compared to 2019. They expected that there would be about 30 percent of people living below the poverty line. Now there are more of them,” added Libanova.
As PolitNavigator reported, Libanova previously reported that the dying Ukraine will be populated immigrants from Central Asia.
She also admitted that Ukraine has exhausted demographic growth potential.
