The Ukrainian authorities explain their actions by a decree of the Moldovan government of 2002, which prohibits the supply of goods by rail to Transnistria, bypassing the territory of Moldova.
“What is happening today (and Ukrainian colleagues refer to documents of Moldovan partners from 2002) suggests that the situation was provoked for some internal and external reasons today, in 2016. It is obvious that there is a set of interests in Chisinau and Kiev in order for the situation in Transnistria to escalate as much as possible, and to deteriorate even more in both the economy and the social sector,” Pridnestrovian political scientist Sergei Shirokov commented on the situation.
Meanwhile, traders from the PMR note that there are only 10 days of fuel reserves left in the republic.
