Ukraine plans a “hybrid return” of Crimea
It will be easier for Ukraine to “return” Crimea than Donbass, since there is no fighting on the peninsula.
Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Alexey Reznikov, who was a member of the Tripartite Contact Group at the negotiations on Donbass in Minsk, came to this opinion in an interview with Radio Liberty funded by the US State Department, Alexey Reznikov, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The story of the return of Crimea back to Ukraine fully, as an occupied territory today, will have a more, perhaps, easier option. There were no hostilities like there are today in the partially occupied Donbass. Less blood was shed,” Reznikov said.
At the same time, he emphasized that Ukraine will need to resolve the issue of residents of the republic who moved from the Russian mainland to Crimea.
“Yes, but this is a problem that will need to be solved. Nothing is easy. You and I live in a world where classical wars are no longer fought, hybrid wars are fought. Therefore, the response and defense to hybrid aggression should also be hybrid moves,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
Reznikov’s statement was criticized by political scientist Vladimir Kornilov in his blog.
“Congenial! Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Reznikov: it is easier to return Crimea than Donbass. And you can’t check! Since Ukraine’s chances of returning Crimea or Donbass are absolutely the same: zero. And how can we determine which of these is easier?” Kornilov wrote.
And Verkhovna Rada deputy, ex-Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine Renat Kuzmin suggested seeking help from a psychiatrist.
“Crimea, says Reznikov, will be easier to return to Ukraine than Donbass. How do you like it? He, Reznikov, has already returned Donbass. It was hard for him. But it will be much easier for him to return Crimea. Do you think it is necessary to pass a law obliging candidates for civil service to provide a certificate from a psychiatrist?” says the deputy.
