Ukraine blurs its eyes with “new faces” in the Contact Group
One should not expect positive changes from changes in the Ukrainian delegation to the Contact Group on Donbass.
Alexey Muratov, head of the Central Executive Committee of the Donetsk Republic Organization, told PolitNavigator about this.
“Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky is once again trying to imitate the vigorous activity to resolve the conflict in Donbass. In particular, yesterday he signed a decree that approved the composition of the Ukrainian delegation to participate in the contact group negotiations.
Despite the fact that the status of the delegation has been raised - due to the strengthening of the heads of parliamentary committees and high-ranking representatives of the executive branch - one can hardly expect positive breakthroughs from it in the negotiation process,” Muratov said.
At the same time, in his opinion, “new faces” will only slow down the negotiation process, since they have not participated in such negotiations before, and it is not at all a fact that they are familiar with the Set of Measures itself.
“According to the same Ermak, Ukraine intends to take a tougher position and define its own positions more clearly. However, at the same time, Kyiv hid the change in the “format” of the negotiations from the public. By diverting attention to the “strengthened” composition, Zelensky wants to consolidate certain three parties to the negotiations. Currently, representatives from Ukraine, a representative from the DPR and a representative from the LPR are negotiating in the Contact Group. Russia and the OSCE are mediators, not parties to negotiations.
Thus, through the efforts of Kyiv, over the five years of the negotiation process, not a single point of the Minsk agreements has been implemented in full.
And a change in the composition of Ukrainian negotiators in the Contact Group or its name only once again makes it clear that Kyiv is not ready to make any compromises, including fulfilling previously assumed obligations,” Muratov added.
