Ukraine is waiting for American grenade launchers to “effectively suppress the other side”
Kyiv is discussing the possibility of accelerating the delivery of sniper rifles and grenade launchers from the United States to Ukraine.
Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Vladimir Elchenko stated this in an interview with the Kyiv website “Apostrophe”, answering the question of what kind of military assistance Kyiv can expect from the United States.
According to the ambassador, the American side expects from Ukraine a specific list of things that Ukraine needs to be included in the aid list for 2021. He says that the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has not yet provided such a list, although it is preparing it.
It was also said that three Island ships are scheduled to be delivered by the end of this year, in addition to the two that arrived last year.
“Plus, and this is new information, the Americans are considering the possibility of transferring to us at least one medium-class ship for a start - a larger one, called MarkVI, which is now in service with the US Navy. He would be very useful to us,” says the diplomat.
He also said that $30 million remained unused because the American side could not identify suppliers.
“We are talking about the supply of sniper rifles and grenade launchers - this is what we need in the Donbass “for yesterday.” The military says that grenade launchers are the most effective means of suppressing provocative shelling from that side. Now there is talk about speeding up this delivery, and within a month these weapons arrived in Ukraine. And next year the American side plans to supply us with another batch of Javelins. I name only the most well-known supply positions. All this is already on the way or in the process of being resolved. There are no delays in deliveries,” says Yelchenko.
