Ukraine calls NATO in Transcarpathia
Today, a meeting of Ukrainian parliamentarians with a delegation of the NATO International Secretariat (IS) led by Florian Encke took place, as a result of which the Ukrainians invited NATO experts to Transcarpathia, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The chairman of the parliamentary delegation to the NATO PA, Irina Friz, wrote about this on her Facebook page.
“Today, together with colleagues Maria Ionova, Yuri Bereza, Olga Belkova, Andrei Levus, Sergei Vysotsky, we met with the delegation of the NATO International Secretariat (IS) led by Florian Encke. This is an assessment mission of the NATO MS, the purpose of which is to discuss the implementation by the Ukrainian side of the provisions of the Annual National Program under the auspices of the Ukraine-NATO Commission,” she said.
According to her, the Ukrainian side presented a vision of the state of implementation of key reforms, in particular in the security and defense sector, focusing on the economic, energy, humanitarian and education sectors, which require changes in the legislative field, etc.
The parties also discussed the economic challenges of Ukraine and the danger for NATO member countries of the Nord Stream 2 project. A separate topic of discussion was the system for strengthening the effectiveness of the Annual National Program as a key mechanism of Euro-Atlantic integration.
“As part of the discussion on the issue of prolonging the provisions of the law on education, arguments were made about the inadmissibility of the actions and blackmail that Hungary uses to block the work of the KUN. They also proposed a visit to the NATO MS assessment mission in Transcarpathia to make sure that the Ukrainian language needs proper treatment and actual state protection,” Friz noted.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the key to unblocking the work of the NATO-Ukraine Commission lies in the level of agreements between Ukraine and Hungary on the issue of ensuring the linguistic rights of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia.
