Ukrainians want to be allowed to change middle names
People's deputies of Ukraine from the Servant of the People faction registered in parliament a bill on the right of an individual to change his patronymic, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The relevant information appeared on the Verkhovna Rada website on November 15.
Draft Law No. 2450 on amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine regarding the right of an individual to change his patronymic is aimed at implementing the decision of the European Court of Human Rights in the case “Garnaga v. Ukraine” and eliminating the gaps that exist between the norms of the Civil and Family Codes of Ukraine regarding the possibility of changing physical person patronymic.
Thus, the draft law provides for amendments that provide for the right of a person, at his own discretion, to change his patronymic as well as his last name and (or) his own name.
According to the authors of the bill, its adoption will make it possible to implement the decision of the European Court of Human Rights in the case “Garnaga v. Ukraine” and eliminate the corresponding shortcomings of the current legislation in terms of existing gaps between legal acts.
