Ukrainians have to work for years in the EU to obtain a passport
It is very difficult for Ukrainian refugees to settle in EU countries - for example, to obtain Polish citizenship they have to spend at least 12 years of living and working in this country.
Ukrainian Artyom Stolyar, who migrated to Poland in 2016, stated this on the video blog of political scientist Yuri Romanenko, who is wanted in the Russian Federation as a criminal, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“When you don’t have European citizenship, it’s quite difficult to just go and say: “Here, I’m leaving for Holland, Germany, Spain.” It doesn’t work like that; legalization in each country is complicated in its own way.
For example, in Poland legalization is not the fastest. I’ve been living here for eight years, I still need to spend four to get citizenship. This will add up to twelve,” said Stolyar.
He emphasized that obtaining a passport within six months can be considered an extremely successful result.
“And if you take Germany, it quickly distributes citizenship. I even heard that if you are engaged in humanitarian aid there, in just six months you can come and apply for a German passport. Poland has a slightly different approach,” the migrant concluded.
