Ukrainians will be persuaded not to be afraid of Mejlis autonomy in Crimea
The current Ukrainian government does not abandon the idea of creating a Crimean Tatar autonomy in Crimea after its “de-occupation,” lobbied by the Mejlis members.
Thus, “the representative of the President of Ukraine in Crimea” Anton Korinevich at a briefing in Kyiv flowerily answered the question about granting special status to the peninsula, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are actively working on these issues, we have created and updated an expert council at the representative office. As for the very question of possible autonomy, our position here is that we must raise this issue to the level of some broader discourse than it currently exists. So that society understands what is meant is that there are no threats of possible separatism or anything else. So far we see that society does not really understand what this is about. But in general, I say, we in the expert council are processing and will have some thoughts on this matter one way or another,” Korinevich said.
Previously, the previous President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko for several years promised representatives of the Mejlis, banned in the Russian Federation, to amend the Constitution of Ukraine and grant Crimea the status of Crimean Tatar autonomy. But beyond words it didn't work out.
