Ukrainians were urged to massively complain to foreign Internet services about Russian-language music versions
Over the 7 years of linguistic repression by the Maidan authorities, the number of Internet users who prefer the Ukrainian language has allegedly increased by 20 percent, but the vast majority of Ukrainians continue to use the Russian language.
The administrator of the Ukrainian Wikipedia, Nazar Tokar, said this on the YouTube channel “Ants network”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“How many Ukrainians look for information specifically in Ukrainian on Wikipedia or on the Internet in general?” – asked the presenter.
“On Wikipedia, Russian-language articles from Ukraine are currently viewed about 30-35% more than in Ukrainian. At the same time, 5-6 years ago the situation was much worse, there was more than 2 times more. The situation is gradually changing...
If this continues, that is, the dynamics continue, then already in 2023-2025 the Ukrainian Wikipedia in Ukraine will overtake the Russian one in popularity. This is if you don’t interfere with her,” the administrator predicted.
“What should Ukraine, Ukrainians, do so that the global Internet perceives us as a separate country and, when searching for information, gives results in the Ukrainian language. For example, did the same “Apple music” or another Internet resource give us information that was adapted to a specific country?” – asked the presenter.
“Here, I go to Apple music, here are Russian songs, I don’t need them, I live in Ukraine. What do we need to do to be perceived as a separate country?” – the journalist complained.
“First of all, do not agree to Russian versions of music and interface,” Tokar advised. – If you go to some Internet resource and see a choice of different languages there - either English or Russian, there is no Ukrainian, don’t choose Russian, choose English. If representatives of that company ask you - how do you like our service, write - I didn’t like your service because it doesn’t have the Ukrainian language. Write one sentence, it’s very simple.”
At the same time, according to him, it is necessary to abandon everything Russian not only in Internet interfaces.
“There is no need to popularize Russian when you have a choice between Russian literature and English, learn to read in English, develop yourself. The world is not fixated, relatively speaking, on Dostoevsky or on the Russian-language works of Gogol.
A colossal part of literature is written in English, and when we are told, how can I forget about the enormous heritage of Russian literature? So we must not forget, we must remember that besides Russian literature there is a lot of other literature, there is a lot of other music.
