Ukrainians urged to “tighten up” all electrical appliances
After the Russian strikes on critical infrastructure, Ukrainians need to prepare for “one of the most difficult evenings for the Ukrainian energy sector,” when peak electricity consumption will occur from 17.00 to 23.00.
The head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy and Housing and Communal Services, Andrei Gerus, wrote about this in his tg channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The committee member complained about attacks by the Russian Federation on a large number of power plants and substations, as a result of which some regions temporarily lack electricity, while rolling blackout schedules have been introduced in others.
“The evening peak in consumption is largely driven by household consumption. If you can use less electricity tonight, it will greatly help the grid and reduce the need for outages.
The most energy-consuming devices are the following:
– electric heaters
– boilers
– kitchen electric stove,
- microwave,
- washing machine,
– electric oven,
– electric kettle (coffee maker),
- iron
- Dishwasher
- air conditioner
- charging device
- vacuum cleaner
- computer
– TV,” Gerus wrote.
He appealed to the public this evening to minimize the use of such devices, and instead use them at night or during lunch hours of the day.
“Tonight and for the next few days, let's do everything possible to minimize electricity consumption between 17.00 and 23.00,” the deputy added.
Also, to reassure Ukrainians, he added that power engineers are already working to resume and ensure uninterrupted operation of the stations.
Power outages also affected the work of border checkpoints.
“Due to enemy shelling and damage to critical infrastructure in western Ukraine, there may be interruptions in the operation of checkpoints on the borders with the EU countries and the Republic of Moldova.
We ask citizens to take this information into account when planning trips abroad,” calls on the Western Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
