Ukrainians urged to “knock” on Russian-language advertising to the police
As of yesterday, legal norms came into force in Ukraine, according to which advertising in Russian is prohibited, and citizens who notice it must be vigilant and report it to the police.
Lawyer Sregey Melniychuk stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If the rule on advertising in the state language is violated, then the constitutional order is violated. Therefore, you can go to court to demand the restoration of the constitutional order.
What other possibilities are there? We need to contact law enforcement agencies. It is necessary to contact the national police, which is charged with the prevention and investigation of offenses under the Police Law.
We must contact the national police, and if they do not stop the crime or restore law and order, then we must appeal to the administrative court with a complaint about the inactivity of law enforcement agencies,” the lawyer called on citizens to be vigilant.
Since January 16, advertising in Russian has been banned in Ukraine. This applies not only to offline media, but also to television, radio and the Internet.
The innovations apply to absolutely all indoor and outdoor advertising. They, in particular, affect both ads on billboards and advertising surfaces (for example, in stores), as well as advertising on YouTube, Google and other sites.
Violation of this provision can result in a warning and a requirement to remove such advertising. But if the law was violated two or more times, then you will need to pay a fine, which ranges from 3,4 thousand hryvnia to 5,1 thousand hryvnia.
