This was stated during a discussion in Ukrainian Crisis Media Center Oksana Aliyeva, coordinator of the program “Climate Change and Energy Policy” of the Representative Office of the Foundation named after. Heinrich Boell in Ukraine.
“More and more international financial institutions are saying that they are withdrawing their investments from coal and investing in renewable energy. […] In some countries of the world, renewable energy is already economic at a competitive level,” Irina Stavchuk, an expert at the National Environmental Center of Ukraine, convinces Ukrainians.
In turn, People's Deputy of Ukraine Alexey Ryabchin believes that climate issues should not be populist, and nuclear energy and coal mining should be closed gradually. However, the politician assures that without appropriate changes, it will be difficult for Ukraine to transform.
“We began to restore those positions that were lost,” he stated. Businesses must understand that continuing to invest in nuclear energy makes no sense, because the entire progressive world is switching to renewable energy resources, which are cheaper and more environmentally friendly,” he asserts.
