The leaders of the Independent Media Trade Union, Yuri Lukanov, and the National Union of Journalists, Sergei Tomilenko, called on the conference participants to condemn the “Russian propaganda machine, which discredits the journalistic profession.”
In his address published on website of the Independent Media Trade Union, they appealed to the results of the G-20 summit. According to the leaders of Ukrainian journalistic organizations, world leaders directly called for the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine. In turn, representatives of the Ukrainian press called on their European colleagues to also talk about the war between Russia and Ukraine.
“The EFJ’s statements do not include a clear understanding that Russian journalists in large numbers have become participants in the propaganda machine that supports the Kremlin’s aggressive policy,” Ukrainian journalists complained.
“If the international journalistic community continues to turn a blind eye to this fact, then this may affect not only the reputation of international journalistic organizations, but also the reputation of the profession as a whole,” they warn in Kyiv.
It should be noted that despite the fact that Ukrainian organizations had previously called on their European colleagues to ignore the EFJ conference in Moscow, delegations from 28 countries take part in its work.
