Ukrainians eat little, and what they don’t eat is sold to Poland
In the 2017/18 season (June-May), Ukraine exported fresh and processed fruits, berries and nuts to Poland worth $56 million. Thus, the volume of supplies of fruit products from Ukraine to Poland doubled in just 2 years, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent. .
EastFruit analysts reported this in Kyiv.
“Ukrainians consume 3-4 times less berries than residents of neighboring European countries, so the potential for market expansion in our country and further growth in exports is significant. If there is no force majeure, then berry producers will have a long period of development in a growing market. They will be able to sell their products not only fresh, but also freeze them during the off-season, and also send them for subsequent processing to food and cosmetic enterprises,” note the company’s analysts.
According to the report of international experts made at the Global Berry Congress, by 2020 Ukraine will supply up to 40 thousand tons of cultivated berries to the world market, and together with wild plants this figure will reach 57 thousand tons.
