Executive Director of the Economic Discussion Club Oleg Pendzin stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The average salary in Ukraine is 227 euros. The average salary in Poland is 1052 euros per month, in Hungary – 992 euros. This allows our neighbors to spend significantly less money on food than in Ukraine. If we compare the expenses of European and Ukrainian families, the Ukrainian family spends 55% of their income on food, the European family spends 14-19%,” the expert said.

He said that an analysis was carried out of the number of kilocalories that Ukrainians and Europeans receive.

“Ukrainian – 2700 kcal per day, German – 3500 kcal per day. This is, in principle, a normal value. So Ukrainians eat worse quality, empty food that they can afford.
They eat less nuts, less high-calorie foods, which are more expensive and provide Europeans with such a high level of kilocalorie consumption. Ukrainians consume significantly less meat and fruit. The average European – 100 kg of fruit per year, Ukrainian – 51 kg per year. For meat, the national norm is 90 kg, Ukrainians consume 49 kg. American – 152 kg. So our low incomes lead to a distorted consumption pattern, high per capita food costs, low calorie content and high household food costs compared to Europeans,” Pendzin concluded.
