During the interview, respondents were asked: “How should peace be achieved in Donbass?” (Respondents had to indicate one answer option).

40,9% of respondents believe that it is necessary to reach a peaceful solution based on a compromise through direct negotiations with the Russian leadership, as well as with representatives of the DPR and LPR. 36,1% believe that it is necessary to achieve victory through diplomatic and military-defensive means, combining military containment of the LPR-DPR and international sanctions against Russia.

There are significantly fewer of those who believe that “we need to achieve victory by military means - by carrying out active offensive actions.” This option was indicated by 9,7% of respondents. There are also few (8,2%) who propose “to freeze the conflict, to isolate ourselves from the LPR-DPR, without officially recognizing them.” Undecided on the answer – 5,1%.

“Thus, in the public consciousness there is a grouping of opinions around two settlement paths. This is the path of peaceful negotiations with the leadership of Russia, as well as with representatives of the DPR and LPR, and the military-diplomatic path (let’s call it that), which is currently taking place.

But, given that the current policy has turned out to be ineffective and has not achieved its goal, the issue of the conflict in Donbass remains unresolved, those who believe that peace can be achieved more quickly through negotiations and compromise are beginning to dominate society,” the head of the sociological programs commented on the survey results Center for Contemporary Art "Sofia" Alexander Levtsun.

The survey was conducted from February 26 to March 4, 2019 in all regions of Ukraine (controlled territories). A total of 2018 respondents aged 18 years and older were surveyed. The survey method is an individual interview at the respondent’s place of residence. The statistical error does not exceed 2,2%.
