Ukrainians threaten to oust Russia from the European gas market
Ukraine, in theory, could become one of the largest producers and importers of gas to Europe, as it was in Soviet times.
Ukrainian political scientist Vadim Tryukhan stated this on the Rossiya-1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If we go back to Soviet times, then Ukraine produced about 70 billion cubic meters of gas. And Ukraine then provided gas, including to the RSFSR. And now there are proven gas reserves; recently I came across these figures - 590 billion cubic meters.
And if Ukraine not only provides itself with gas, but also enters the EU market, and according to the calculations of our energy experts, it has the potential to enter 10% of the European Union market,” he said.
In response, Russian political scientist Dmitry Abzalov cited facts indicating the opposite situation.
“I remind you that Akcent entered the territory of Ukraine, it tried to carry out control drilling there, but did not find the opportunity to carry out production or export.
The second important point that we all talk about together. Ukraine has never exported gas in recent years; it spent everything on its own consumption...
Moreover, Ukraine, among other things, also takes our Russian gas back for consumption, in case anyone has forgotten. That is, in fact, we are the ones who will stabilize Ukraine with gas, from the point of view of the future,” Abzalov said.
According to him, Ukraine does not appear in the monitoring of Western companies as a potential exporter of energy resources, which also says a lot.
