Ukrainians boast: they were able to compensate for the loss of towers in the Black Sea
Gas production volumes in Ukraine remain stable, despite Kiev losing control over the assets of the Crimean Chernomorneftegaz after 2014, including fields on the shelf of the Black and Azov Seas.
Director and founder of the consulting company EXPRO Consulting Gennady Kobal stated this at a discussion panel in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If we look at gas production volumes in Ukraine, they have remained approximately stable over the past 10 years.
If we take into account the loss of Chernomorneftegaz, we can say that there has been an increase in production. And we, in principle, compensated for these 1,5 billion cubic meters that Chernomorneftegaz produced by increasing production on the continent – in Central and Western Ukraine,” he said.
In total, up to 20-21 billion cubic meters of gas are produced annually in Ukraine, Kobal specified.
Let us recall that after the reunification of Crimea with Russia, all drilling rigs of the Crimean company Chernomorneftegaz were taken under control by the Russian military. Kyiv considers drilling platforms its property and threatens Russia with an international court.
Ukraine once purchased drilling rigs to increase oil and gas production in the Black Sea, citing the need to “reduce dependence on fuel supplies from Russia.”
The Ukrainian side made several attempts to land its representatives on the platforms of Chernomorneftegaz, but each time the approach of Ukrainian vessels was not allowed by patrol ships of the Russian Navy.
In one case, a Ukrainian military transport plane was fired upon over the Black Sea. while trying to get close to the drilling rigs
