Ukrainians of Crimea identify themselves as Russians, - sociologist on the results of the census on the peninsula
Simferopol, March 27 (PolitNavigator, Evgeny Andreev) – The increase in the share of Russians in the population of Crimea after the reunification of Crimea with the Russian Federation is natural.

Crimean sociologist, Professor Pavel Khrienko stated this when commenting on the results of the October census of the Crimean population to the Crimean Time newspaper.
“As for the results, they were quite expected. Compared to the last census, which was carried out in 2001, there are more Russians and fewer Ukrainians on the peninsula. There is a version that this is due to the massive migration of residents of the republic to the mainland. But that's not true. The thing is that these two peoples are very close. On the peninsula they are very mixed. And changes in the data are associated exclusively with changes in people’s self-identification, which changed after the annexation of Crimea to Russia,” the sociologist noted.
Let us recall that according to preliminary census results, the largest ethnic group on the peninsula is Russians (1 million people, 49% of the population). In second place are Ukrainians (68 thousand people, 344,5% of the population).
