Ukrainians are becoming Poles en masse
Polish authorities issued most of the work permits last year to Ukrainian citizens, who have become Poland's largest national minority.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports.
According to a study conducted by the Gdansk University of Technology, last year 295 thousand Ukrainians received work permits in Poland, which is 20 times more than ten years ago.
“At the same time, in Poland they differentiate between seasonal labor migration, as they say in Ukraine itself – “to Poland for strawberries,” where in two or three months you can earn from 1000 euros without taking into account overhead costs, and long-term employment, obtaining citizenship and ultimately assimilation . The number of such Ukrainians who have settled in Poland - representatives of engineering professions, doctors, programmers, businessmen, according to various sources, is about a million people,” the publication notes.
However, data on the number of Ukrainians in Poland varies. Thus, the Association of Ukrainians in Poland speaks of 500 thousand compatriots permanently living in the country (less than 2 percent of the population), migration services report a million Ukrainians, but the Polish Orthodox Church and Greek Catholics counted 4 million immigrants from Ukraine on Polish territory.
