Ukrainians dream of ousting Russia from the helicopter repair niche
Ukraine should push Russia out of the niche of repairing Mi-8 helicopters, which are among the most popular in the world.
Military expert Taras Chmut stated this on air on the Skrypin Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, this is already beginning to happen in Georgia, which recently signed a contract with the Motor Sich company for the repair and modernization of helicopter engines for the Mi-8.
“Last year Georgia decided to restore its aviation, and they began to restore it, they have their own aircraft factory in Tbilisi, where they once produced the Su-25, they brought both planes and helicopters there - everything they had, except American "Iroquois", and began to restore it on their own.
It is clear that they will need new engines. Somehow, buying in Russia is not very “okay”, so they buy in Ukraine. For Motor Sich, such niches should have been one of the ways out of the crisis, because the Mi-8 and its modifications fly in many countries around the world, in dozens.
And this market is now almost entirely owned by Russians. To push them out of there in countries like Georgia, which are not very “okay” for Russia, and where we could present some new conditions, better service, better support, better something and receive regular, constant orders for decades, Using the money we earn to create some new designs and products is still difficult for us,” Chmut said.
