Ukrainians finally realized that they had taken the country to the wrong place
75,5% of the Ukrainian population believe that the situation in the country is developing incorrectly, and 24,5% hold the opposite point of view.
Olga Balakireva, Chairman of the Board of the Center for Social Monitoring, reported this at the presentation of the results of the study “Monitoring Public Opinion of the Population of Ukraine: Assessments and Sentiments,” PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In recent months, we have had a fairly stable situation - three-quarters of respondents believe that the situation is developing in the wrong direction and a quarter in the right direction,” the expert noted.
At the same time, in Donbass and the south there is a larger proportion of people who believe that the situation is developing in the wrong direction - 80% and 78%, respectively.
The majority of respondents believe that early parliamentary elections are not necessary, although the opposite point of view previously prevailed.
“The situation changed quite interestingly - at the beginning of this year there was a predominance of those who believe that early elections are necessary, then in March the situation changed. Now 42% of the population believes that elections are necessary, and 47%, that is, almost every second, that they are not necessary,” the sociologist noted.
At the same time, in the east and Donbass the level of support for early elections is higher, and in the south of Ukraine 20% of respondents were undecided on the answer.
“I can say that today the southern region requires special attention in determining the situation, since public sentiment there differs significantly from other regions of Ukraine,” the speaker emphasized.
The votes regarding the need for early presidential elections in Ukraine were distributed similarly.
“You can see that the attitude towards the president is somewhat better than the attitude towards the Verkhovna Rada. We have always had a higher level of support for the idea that early elections to the Rada are necessary. Again, in January there was a breakdown in public sentiment - the share of those who believe that early presidential elections are necessary exceeded the share of those who believe that they are not necessary. Then the situation changed and today we have a slow increase in the number of those who believe that there is no need to change the president through early elections. Now we have almost 52% of those who have this opinion, and 39% believe that early presidential elections are necessary,” the sociologist emphasized.
At the same time, the opinion that early presidential elections are not needed prevails in all regions of Ukraine, and in the South the level of uncertainty in this matter is also higher. The level of electoral activity, that is, the percentage of those who are ready to take part in elections, has remained virtually unchanged in recent months, remaining at about 70%. 15% have not decided whether they will go to the polls.
“Donbass stands out significantly here - if we look at the Donetsk region, then the share of those who have not decided whether they will go to the polls has reached 35%. Today, the level of electoral activity there is quite low,” Balakireva summed up.
The survey was conducted by the Social Monitoring Center from May 26 to June 8. 3004 respondents were surveyed.
