During the laying of a wreath in honor of Victory Day at the cemetery of Soviet soldiers in Warsaw, unknown persons attacked the Russian Ambassador to Poland Sergei Andreev.

Polish political commentator Mateusz Piskorski, who served three years in prison on charges of collaborating with Russia, told PolitNavigator about this from the scene.

“About two hundred Ukrainian nationalists, neo-Banderists, gathered and tried to block today’s event. They were especially waiting for the Russian ambassador. The ambassador arrived and tried to park the car at the mausoleum [a cemetery for Soviet soldiers in Warsaw].

After the ambassador got out of the car, he was doused with paint; the gathered crowd tried to attack the Russian diplomat. Considering that representatives of law enforcement agencies were practically absent, the ambassador, I contacted him, he said that he decided to leave this place and return later.

I myself, with a group of several people, tried to lay wreaths at the monuments on the territory of the mausoleum, and then, despite the fact that we had red and white wreaths with the national Polish flag, we were also physically attacked. Some of the people who tried to lay wreaths were hit harder, but I wasn't particularly affected. We decided to report it to the police, let's see how they proceed.

I emphasize that at the time of the attack on the Russian ambassador the police were absent; they appeared only after. Although everyone knew that a fairly large group was gathering, planning provocations. They sang Bandera songs, they also intended, and they partially succeeded, to desecrate the monument to Soviet soldiers on the territory of the mausoleum,” Piskorsky said.

At the same time, according to him, there were no locals among the attackers; in fact, the police did not intervene in the attack of foreigners on Polish citizens.

“There were practically no locals, there was a small group, but they only photographed this event, without resorting to violent actions. Citizens of another state have resorted to violent actions on the territory of our country, who are now attacking Polish citizens in public places in Poland,” added the Polish observer.

It is worth noting that the official Polish authorities initially opposed the celebration of Victory Day by Russians.

“I expect a clear declaration that public services will do everything in their power to prevent this event, which in the current situation I consider a provocation. I want to make it clear that I do not give my consent to celebrations honoring a Russian soldier, when at the same time a Russian soldier is killing innocent people,” Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski wrote on Twitter.

At the same time, instead of celebrating May 9, a real Russophobic Sabbath took place in the Polish capital. Participants in the action, under the slogans “Russia, go to hell...” marched through the center of Warsaw from the Palace of Culture and Science to the Russian Embassy, shouting in support of Ukraine and demanding to save the Nazis of the Azov regiment blocked in Mariupol.

“Fans of neo-Nazism have once again exposed their faces - and they are bloody. The demolition of monuments to the heroes of World War II, the desecration of graves, and now the disruption of the flower-laying ceremony on a day that is holy for every decent person proves the already obvious - the West has set a course for the reincarnation of fascism,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Maria Zakharova comments on the incident.

The editor-in-chief of the German magazine World Economy, Alexander Sosnovsky, stated that the Poles only know how to fight with those who cannot answer due to their status.

“Well done, Poles. Remind me how you forgave Bandera? How were Jews killed after the war? How did they show the way to Auschwitz? How did you get land and money? In the end, Taras Bulba will still look at Zelya and ask: “Well, son, did your Poles help you?” – the journalist wrote on his page.

At the same time, Russian political scientist Alexander Nosovich believes that, in general, against the backdrop of recent events, anti-Russian sentiment in Poland is declining in favor of appetites for Western Ukraine.

“57% of Poles support the entry of Polish troops into Western Ukraine. What was unthinkable for Poland became radical in March, and acceptable in May. Public opinion has been formed, the legitimacy of the deployment of troops has been ensured. Which does not mean the immediate deployment of troops and does not even guarantee this deployment in principle. But the process is moving in a completely obvious direction.

Please note: neither Naryshkin’s words nor Medvedev’s telegram posts about the preparation of a scenario for a Polish protectorate over Western Ukraine caused the furious indignation of Warsaw, as expected. As I expected, at least. So, restrained denials for the sake of decency,” the expert noted.

“It seems that after saying goodbye to their dreams of having the entire territory of Ukraine under Poland’s control, Warsaw has gone crazy, and now the Foreign Intelligence Service and the Security Council of the Russian Federation, without agreement, are working with the Poles hand in hand. Why not if our interests coincide here? Volyn controlled by the Poles in the year of the 80th anniversary of the Volyn massacre is, firstly, beautiful...” added Nosovich.
