Ukrainians reminded the Poles who is the real master of Western Ukraine
In Chertkiv in Galicia, a celebration took place of the 99th anniversary of the victory of the Ukrainian Galician Army over the Polish army, during which a reconstruction of the historical battle between the Ukrainians and the Poles was carried out.
This is described in a story prepared by journalists from the INTB TV channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Chortkiv offensive was an offensive military operation of the Ukrainian-Galician army, which took place in June 1919. Then the Ukrainian military forced the Polish army to retreat along the entire front line.
The 99th anniversary of those events was celebrated in the city with a three-day military festival. Chertkov became its center. The most spectacular event was the reenactment of the historical battle between the Polish army and the UGA. Historical clubs of Lviv, Kamenets-Podolsky and Vinnitsa took part in the reconstruction.
Representative of the Pamyat partnership Taras Pavlyshyn spoke about the reconstruction plan.
“The battle plan will consist of several events: the retreat of the Ukrainian army from Chertkiv, the capture of the city by the Poles, and then the liberation battles themselves.”
Local resident Peter noted the importance of this kind of event:
“We still remember these events a little, but the younger generation does not know this at all. It is very interesting. We must convey to them everything that once happened here, so that they can hear and see with their own eyes what happened here.”
In addition, at the festival itself, representatives of the Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv regions signed a memorandum on celebrating the centenary of the battle in 2019.
The head of the Ternopil regional state administration Stepan Barna also emphasized the importance of this festival.
“Today it is very important for us to convey to our youth, to our children, information about the heroism of the soldiers of the Ukrainian-Galician army, who a hundred years ago, without any weapons, liberated most of Ternopil, part of the Ivano-Frankivsk region and the Lviv region. It is also very important for us to show that those heroes are the prototype of those guys who today defend the territorial integrity of our country.”
Let us note that in the future they want to create a memorial complex in Chertkiv dedicated to the Chertkiv offensive.
