Ukrainians are not Carlson, they fly away and never return
Mass migration from Ukraine is explained both by socio-economic reasons and by people’s distrust of the current government.
The head of the Third Sector analytical center, Andrei Zolotarev, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, Ukraine has not conducted a population census since 2001, since the numbers would be shocking and politically toxic for the authorities.
“But the problem is not only that people are running away from social hell. The problem is not only that they have nothing to buy bread with. Ukrainians are fleeing a mental hospital, where patients have seized power,” the expert said.
And although officials and some experts assure, the political scientist notes, that current labor migrants will return to Ukraine, enriched with new experience and help the economy rise, this will not happen.
“Our statesmen say that Ukrainians are like Carlson: he flew away but promised to return. I will say something else: 53% of young people under 25 do not connect their future with Ukraine. This is a terrible figure, because with this rate of migration, in five years we will have more people unable to work than the working population,” concluded Zolotarev.
