Ukrainians cannot afford increased prices for tangerines and bananas
Kyiv, January 30 (PolitNavigator, Alexander Semenyuta) – 44% of Ukrainian consumers reduced their consumption of citrus fruits in 2014. Experts explain this by the rise in price of this group of goods. For example, prices for tangerines increased by 78% compared to last year.

This is stated in a study by the association "Ukrainian Club of Agricultural Business» together with the AgriSurvey agency.
“Currently, in wholesale markets, tangerines are sold for an average of 21-29 UAH/kg, in retail chains the cost reaches 30-38 UAH/kg. By the way, the wages of Ukrainians in 2014 increased by an average of only 5,9%, which, in the context of general inflation, reduces the consumer basket of Ukrainians, who exclude non-essential goods from it,” the report says.
According to the results of the study, 32,9% of respondents who reported a reduction in consumption noted a 10% decrease in consumption compared to 2013, 35,4% estimated the reduction at 10-50%, 31,6% - more than half.
Customs statistics confirm the survey data. Thus, in 2014, 329,2 thousand tons of citrus fruits were imported, 25,8% less than in 2013.
