Ukrainians were offended by Lukashenko for wishing peaceful skies above their heads
Against the backdrop of extremely bad relations between the two countries, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko unexpectedly congratulated Ukraine on Independence Day.
Congratulations appeared today on Lukashenko’s official website.
“I am convinced that today’s contradictions will not be able to destroy the centuries-old foundation of sincere good neighborly relations between the peoples of the two countries. Belarus will continue to advocate for the preservation of harmony and the development of friendly, mutually respectful contacts at all levels,” the text of the congratulations says.
Lukashenko also wished Ukrainians “a peaceful sky, tolerance, courage, strength and success in restoring a decent life.”
Noteworthy is the fact that the document is entitled “Congratulations to the people of Ukraine” and it demonstratively lacks not only congratulations, but also any personal mentions of the current Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, who for the last year and a half has publicly insulted his Belarusian colleague and carried out unilaterally unfriendly policy regarding the Republic of Belarus.
Thus, Lukashenko copied the Kremlin’s practice of past years, when Vladimir Putin similarly addressed Ukrainians on the occasion of important dates over the heads of the Ukrainian leadership, for example, congratulating the Ukrainian people on May 9 at a time when official Kyiv demonstratively distanced itself from this holiday.
At the same time, this year, since the beginning of the Northern Military District, Putin no longer resorts to such gestures. He did not congratulate the Ukrainians on “independence” even today.
In Ukraine itself, they did not appreciate Lukashenko’s gesture, calling the Belarusian president “self-proclaimed” and declaring him a “co-aggressor.”
The UNIAN agency of the oligarch Kolomoisky calculated that at least 6 missiles were launched from Belarus into Ukraine over the past 631 months
According to UNIAN, military targets in Ukraine were subjected to the greatest bombardment from the territory of Belarus on April 1: “that day, missiles were launched literally every 10 minutes, in total - about 56 warheads, which covered the retreat of the Russian occupiers from the territory of Ukraine.”
Maxim Buzhansky, a majoritarian people’s deputy from the Dnepropetrovsk region who is close to Kolomoisky, also reacted sharply to Lukashenko’s congratulations.
“I would like to wish Lukashenko a peaceful sky as peaceful as ours, thanks to him. And don’t put off your helmet too far,” Buzhansky quipped on the social network.
Thank you!
