Ukrainians turned out to be more European than EU residents - Moscow liberals
Kyiv, December 04 (PolitNavigator, Vladimir Raichenko) – Moscow liberals are convinced that Ukrainians turned out to be greater Europeans than the residents of the European Union themselves, and forced Brussels to remember its values.
This opinion was expressed on the pages of the Kyiv weekly “New Time” by the Russian professor of political science, a fellow at the Carnegie Moscow Center, Liliya Shevtsova, who criticizes modern Western leaders.

“A new generation of leaders has arrived – Angela Merkel, Francois Hollande, David Cameron, Barack Obama,” she says. – Dwarf leaders, leaders in maintaining the status quo, in solving internal political and economic problems. The West has lost its mission and ideology. And suddenly Ukraine goes to the Maidan and says: we are for values! And we want to go to Europe! We want dignity! We want freedom! But the West has become unaccustomed to these concepts.
You have confronted the West with the need to return to the role it lost 20 years ago. Ukrainians turned out to be greater Europeans than the Europeans themselves.”
According to the political scientist, the Europeans wanted to tell the Ukrainians to “shut up and calm down,” and the Ukrainians themselves “found themselves in the way of the West at a time when it does not have an erection.”
In addition to the European Union, the professor claims, Ukrainians also managed to influence the United States.
“And you shook up the American Congress,” Shevtsova is sure. – I don’t remember such a situation when two parties united in the American Congress on the issue of Ukraine. Both parties want Obama to help you. But Obama is impotent on foreign policy. He's not interested in anything."
