Ukrainians refuse good tea and coffee because of the high cost

Kyiv, January 28 (PolitNavigator, Alexander Semenyuta) – The past year has changed the preferences of Ukrainian tea and coffee buyers. Having lost their income, they began to buy less at the same time as they switched to cheaper types of drinks, reports A business.

“Consumers have switched from expensive coffees such as Arabica to cheaper varieties. If at the beginning of 2014, coffee was most in demand at an average price of 200 UAH per kilogram, but now varieties are most often ordered for 80-120 UAH,” comments Denis Kachalov, a representative of the Coffee Company, commenting on the sad results of the year.

The situation on the tea market is slightly better than on the coffee market. What saves us is that world prices for the product practically do not change. The only factor that now affects prices and consumer opportunities is the devaluation of the hryvnia.

According to experts, the tea and coffee market is partially saved by seasonal factors - the cold season. As a rule, in autumn and winter, the demand for tea and coffee is 15-20% higher than in warm seasons. Thus, a real decrease in demand for these products should be expected with the onset of warmer weather.

“With the arrival of spring, we may see a further decline in the market and a decrease in business profitability. Consumption will undoubtedly decrease, bringing with it a drop in sales volumes,” Denis Kachalov predicts the development of the situation.
