The criminals recruited potential donors from low-income rural areas and sent people to countries in Asia and Latin America to perform illegal organ transplants. During 2010-2014, they transported about fifty citizens of Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Lithuania and the Russian Federation abroad, reported the press service of the department.
The detainees were declared suspected of committing a crime under Part 2 of Article 149 (trafficking in persons or other illegal agreement regarding a person, committed by prior conspiracy by a group of persons) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
As PolitNavigator reported, earlier a scandal erupted in the ATO zone: wounded and simply kidnapped people were allegedly used as organ donors.
