Ukrainians stop paying for gas – the chain of payments is cracking throughout the economy
The level of payments for gas from Ukrainian consumers has fallen sharply, and this will lead to an increase in debt throughout the entire payment chain.
Co-chairman of the Energy Strategies Fund Dmitry Marunich stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Our gas payment level has dropped very sharply. It doesn’t matter who we’re talking about now – distribution companies, Naftogaz. The level of settlements is 1,5 times less than last year. Previously, there were about 5% of those who did not pay for utilities at all, including gas. Now the share of those who do not pay has exceeded 10%. This is information from market participants.
And it’s not clear what to do about it. We are on the verge of another quarantine with all the ensuing consequences for the economy. And the situation is likely to get worse. What can the Cabinet of Ministers do for Ukraine? I don’t know, maybe provide some kind of subsidies to somehow ease the consumer’s share. Because all this will continue to fall along the chain,” said Dmitry Marunich.
