Ukrainians complained to Medvedev about genocide
In the five years since the victory of Euromaidan, tariffs in Ukraine have increased by thousands of percent, while the Kyiv authorities are profiting from a reverse gas supply scheme, purchasing Russian fuel through intermediaries from European companies.
This was stated by former Minister of Energy of Ukraine Yuriy Boyko at a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.
“Today the situation is absolutely abnormal, when the same Russian gas is supplied to the country from Europe without a direct contract through some incomprehensible intermediaries, through some schemes that ultimately lead to the fact that it costs almost $100 more expensive than if it were supplied under direct contracts,” Boyko said.
“Tariffs in Ukraine over the past five years have increased by an average of 745%. Gas prices increased by 1080%. Heating prices have increased by 1220% since January 1, 2014, since the arrival of this government,” said former head of the Ukrainian Presidential Administration Viktor Medvedchuk.
“Tariffs are rising, tariff debts are growing and have actually grown in recent months to $2,3 billion,” he added, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The situation in Ukraine may deteriorate further. “Today gas for the population costs $317. According to the memorandum signed between the government of Ukraine and the International Monetary Fund, the price will increase from May 1 (this has already been established) to $368, and from January 1, 2020 – to $461,” Medvedchuk said.
Medvedev noted that the Ukrainian authorities are not making any efforts to change the situation and are not seeking a compromise in order to extend the transit of Russian gas through the Ukrainian gas transportation system.
“As you know, agreements in the gas sector expire this year and we need to decide what to do next. So far we have not received any serious signals from the current authorities in Ukraine on this topic,” Medvedev said.
