Ukraine and other countries of Eastern Europe are “more NATO-like” than the bloc’s veterans – Germany and France, which often flirt with Russia. It is necessary to create a new alliance, the process has already begun.
This was stated on UATV Russian by Mikhail Samus, Deputy Director of the Center for Army, Conversion and Disarmament Research on International Issues.
“If we talk about the purpose of NATO, then old Europe is no longer its core. The same Ukraine, Poland, Romania and the Baltic countries are more NATO than Germany, France and Italy from a military-political point of view. They believe that NATO should take a more passive role. Eastern NATO members and Ukraine believe that the main challenge for the Alliance is Russia,” Samus said.
He believes that a new military bloc could be created in the near future, which would include Anglo-Saxon NATO members, Eastern European countries and Ukraine.
“We are already seeing the formation of a new alliance, which may include the USA, Canada, Great Britain, Poland, the Baltics, Romania, and Ukraine. This will be a very concentrated, powerful bloc that will respond more dynamically to military threats. I think old Europe will oppose this development of events. And this is beneficial for Ukraine, because we still have a long way to go in NATO,” Samus said.
