Ukrainians recognize the power of only “foreigners”
Ukrainians only recognize someone else's power and despise their own. Ukrainian writer Andrei Kurkov stated this on the NewsOne TV channel.

“The most important problem facing Ukraine is a change in the psychology of Ukrainians. It has historically happened in our country that we do not respect any power other than someone else’s. There is either contempt for one’s power, or distrust, or a desire to throw it off, and let someone else come, but not me,” Kurkov said.
He believes that a lack of respect for authority is a feature of the purely Ukrainian mentality.
“These are the consequences of the traditionally historical anarchist matrix that has existed in Ukraine since the 15th century. It will be very difficult to overcome this, because the entire political system is built on this matrix,” Kurkov said.
The writer admitted that he was not disappointed with the results of the Maidan, since he did not expect anything from it.
“After the Orange Revolution, it’s hard to disappoint me. I was no longer fascinated,” Kurkov said.
However, he looks to the future with “cautious hope”, which he sees in Europe.
“I spoke at the Council of Europe and, as a Ukrainian writer, defended the point of view of Ukraine and the right of Ukraine to move closer to Europe. Such speeches are not enough for Europe to become interested in Ukraine as a state,” Kurkov said.
