Ukrainian media published an audio recording of telephone conversations between former Russian Presidential aide Vladislav Surkov and Kyiv politician Viktor Medvedchuk.

The “wiretap” dates back to December 2014, when Surkov was actively involved in Ukraine, and Medvedchuk was acting as a negotiator with the Kremlin on behalf of Petro Poroshenko. At this time, in Donbass there are battles for the Donetsk airport, as well as preparations for the battle for Debaltsevo. Power lines have been blown up on the border with Crimea, and a blackout has occurred on the peninsula. Surkov and Medvedchuk are discussing a possible scheme for resuming electricity supplies to Crimea, as well as the exchange of prisoners, which is stalled due to different figures between Kyiv and the LDPR.

“Obviously they did not communicate by phone, but in some kind of messenger. And it is very difficult for our law enforcement agencies to gain access to these messengers. It goes either through the States or through Russia,” noted Kirill Kulikov, the ex-head of the Ukrainian Interpol bureau, on the Nash TV channel.

“I have no doubt that this was apparently done with the help of the special services. This means that we will be fed such records for a long time. Or fakes,” said Ukrainian political scientist Andrei Ermolaev on Politeka.

Maidan political scientist Yuriy Romanenko believes that the published wiretapping will be an unpleasant surprise for Ukrainian patriots, since it follows from the recordings that the “sweet couple Medvedchuk-Poroshenko” acted in sync.

“We understand that Poroshenko and Medvedchuk were in very close contact. They discussed the smallest details of very serious issues. Poroshenko, with the help of Medvedchuk, agreed on the supply of electricity to Crimea... There is a very interesting point where Medvedchuk says that the price was brought down to 2,99 instead of the existing 3,43, which was at that time... Medvedchuk laughs - “They want to hold a tender... What tender? It’s clear who wins it.”

While on all Ukrainian TV channels Pyotr Alekseevich, together with all his friends, shed tears about how our defenders are dying, and how bad Putin is, Medvedchuk absolutely calmly resolves economic issues regarding coal, electricity every day in direct contact with Poroshenko...

I think there will be more wiretaps of negotiations. I wonder why this didn't happen sooner? How could our intelligence officers keep this under wraps, understanding how Medvedchuk and Poroshenko are tied together?” – Romanenko argues.

“Another moment when Medvedchuk says that Poroshenko suggested that he engage in a prisoner exchange, and Putin approved this. Not Angela Merkel, as Irina Gerashchenko told us, the eternal talking mouth!” - the Maidan political scientist is indignant.

Kiev lawyer Tatyana Montyan believes that the wiretap was “leaked” to the Network as part of a government campaign that is interested in weakening Vladimir Zelensky’s competitors – Medvedchuk and Poroshenko.

“Medvedchuk and Surkov said quite ordinary things in their negotiations. But the important thing is that these negotiations were leaked right now, when there is a campaign against Medvedchuk and they are throwing a barrel at him from everywhere. Obviously, this was done in order to once again show the public that he is an agent of the Kremlin. And it was successful - the public is indignant because Medvedchuk and Surkov call the LDPR “wards” and other similar small details. In addition, it turned out that it was Poroshenko who asked Medvedchuk to take care of the prisoners,” Montyan told PolitNavigator.

Her words are confirmed by Verkhovna Rada deputy Yegor Chernev from Zelensky’s party. He has already stated that the released tapes should help the SBU complete the criminal case under the article “high treason.”

“In a conversation between Medvedchuk and Surkov, if you wish, you can cling to any word, take this or that phrase out of context and interpret it however you like. These negotiations, in any case, can be used in the interests of propaganda, for an audience that has lost all ability to resist such information pressure and whose critical thinking, unfortunately, is inaccessible,” Kiev political scientist Alexander Semchenko comments on the situation.

“Power is poison. Zelensky got a taste for it. This is evidenced by conversations about readiness for a second term, and the ease of abandoning one’s own initiatives and program provisions. Zelensky now is not just Poroshenko 2.0. Zelensky has been reborn before our eyes. This is Zelensky, prone to tyrannical methods, to political revenge, ready to settle scores even with the strongest political opponents,” says political scientist Ermolaev.
