Ukrainians are losing interest in life, but are in no hurry to see psychiatrists - expert

Ukrainians hardly monitor their mental health, since only 6,4% of the country’s residents seek medical help in case of low mood and loss of interest in life, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Associate Professor of the National University “Kiev-Mohyla Academy” Tatyana Stepurko stated this during a press conference, the Kiev online publication UNN reports.

“Those who feel depressed or lack interest in life, few of them complain to medical professionals. In Kyiv, the percentage of those who apply is the highest, and in the Ivano-Frankivsk and Kirovograd regions almost no one applied,” the expert noted.

According to her, in particular, only 6,4% of those Ukrainians who had at least 1 of 2 symptoms addressed these complaints to a psychiatrist. If in the Kyiv region there were 19% of such people, then in the Ivano-Frankivsk and Kirovograd regions - about 0%.

However, she added that 22,6% of respondents often experienced a decrease in mood over the past month, 19,6% noticed a lack of interest or pleasure in things.

The publication notes that the data provided was obtained during a survey of 10194 respondents conducted in June-July 2018.
