This was stated by a Kiev resident who called the Radio Vesti studio, where an interactive survey was conducted on the topic “How much do Ukrainians spend on food?”, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to the Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine Andrey Reva, ordinary citizens spend 50% of their income on food, but Kiev resident Evgeniy denied this information and said that in Kyiv they spend 90% of their money on food. According to the respondent, the level of income of the capital’s population remained the same as during the reign of Yanukovych, while prices rose to “European” levels.
We convey to readers the verbatim dialogue that took place on this issue in the studio:
“Good morning, where are you from?
- Kind. Evgeniy, from Kyiv. What I want to say regarding the percentage that is spent on food: I believe that at the present time about 90% of wages are spent on food.
– 90, not 50? That's for sure?
– Of course, because our salaries, unlike the salaries of our officials, remained at the level they were five years ago. All salaries are paid in envelopes, nothing has changed. I believe that our ministers are only talking, but the real picture that is happening in society and in the workplace is simply terrible. What people earn is simply terrible, the prices... You can really say that people spend not 50, but 90% of their earnings on food.
– Look, we are talking about the fact that Ukrainians eat more than Germans or Poles. Do you think so?
– Ukrainians probably work more than Germans, which is why they eat more. I want to say that in modern times, whatever a person earns, he gives.”
