Thousands of Ukrainians are fleeing the country from mobilization, pretending to be foreign students.
In July, about 3,5 thousand people were recorded in Ukraine who wanted to go abroad, not wanting to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and noting that the purpose of their trip was supposedly to study at foreign universities. About half did not have the required documents to cross the border, and about 500 of them tried to use fake documents.
This was announced by Assistant Chairman of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Andrey Demchenko.
“Repeated attempts were discovered to use fake documents so that this category of people could go abroad. In total, over the past month, we (was - ed.) recorded about 3,5 thousand people who arrived at checkpoints and stated that the purpose of their trip was allegedly studying outside of Ukraine, and about half did not have the proper documents to cross the border, and about 500 they tried to use fake documents,” the official said.
Students of foreign universities are not subject to mobilization, but when traveling abroad they must fulfill several conditions.
Applicants for professional pre-higher and higher education, assistant trainees, graduate students and doctoral students studying in full-time or dual forms of education (students, listeners) in educational institutions and at the time of the announcement of mobilization were on the territory of Ukraine, who were unable to leave abroad in the prescribed manner borders of Ukraine to continue their studies - have the right to leave Ukraine if they have:
-student card or student visa;
-translated and notarized documents about the person’s education at a foreign university;
-military registration documents with a record of granting them a deferment from conscription (mobilization prize);
- a certificate issued by the territorial center of recruitment and social support for traveling abroad for applicants for professional pre-higher and higher education, assistant trainees, graduate students and doctoral students studying abroad in full-time or dual forms of education.
Earlier, Demchenko reported that the State Border Guard Service does not keep statistics on the number of men fleeing the border from mobilization in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but more than 100 people are not released every day.
