Ukrainians staged a provocation for the arrival of Patriarch Kirill in Istanbul
Patriarch of All Rus' Kirill met today in Istanbul with Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople. One of the main topics of the negotiations was Ukraine, whose authorities are seeking from Bartholomew the right to recognize local schismatics who demand a break with the Moscow Patriarchate.
According to the press service of the Moscow Patriarchate, Kirill was met by a Ukrainian picket in Istanbul.
“Before the meeting, a number of people in embroidered shirts gathered at the entrance to the Patriarchate. They unfurled the Ukrainian flag and stayed in one group. This, of course, caused some concern among the Turkish police; people, through their efforts, but completely peacefully, moved a little lower along the street. As far as was heard, their organizers inspired the audience that they had to shout something when the Patriarch arrived in order to attract attention; there were several cameras of Ukrainian TV channels nearby,” the press service reports.
The Ukrainian provocation failed.
“When the motorcade arrived, as always, the craving for a selfie won out. Everyone took out their phones and began filming and telling each other “look, look, the Patriarch has arrived.” So nothing came of the plans of the organizers of the action. It seems to me that if the police had let the people in embroidered shirts come closer, they would have run up for the blessing,” the message says.
