Ukrainians in Odessa feel like a diaspora - Maidan activist
Unlike Kyiv, there is critically little Ukrainian in Odessa, which creates a difficult atmosphere for Kyiv Russophobes.
Ukrainian musician and Maidan artist Ivan Semesyuk spoke about this in an interview with Kraina magazine, answering the question why after one of the concerts he called the Odessa audience “heavy”.
“There is critically little Ukrainian in Odessa,” admits Semesyuk. – Ukrainians there are like a kind of diaspora. And besides, there are a lot of quilted jackets. All this creates a peculiar, rather difficult atmosphere for me. Especially as a resident of Kiev, because in recent years the capital has become distinctly Ukrainian. Kyiv is changing very quickly in this direction.”
At the same time, the publication’s interlocutor said that most of his life he communicated in Russian, but now he “completely switched to Ukrainian.”
As PolitNavigator reported, Semesyuk took part in organizing an exhibition where costumed Russian performers put in a cage with a sign "Carefully! Don’t come close!”
