Ukrainians still disdain to “knock”, but they will be re-educated
The institution of “whistlers”, which exists in a number of Western countries, will not work in Ukraine, because due to their mentality, Ukrainians consider it unacceptable to inform on their fellow citizens, and this needs to be changed.
The head of the Center for Legal and Criminological Research, Anna Malyar, stated this on Channel 4, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The institution of whistleblowers, people who report, works effectively both in the States and in some European countries. And 10 years ago, one of the requirements for Ukraine was the fight against corruption.
But why won’t he work in Ukraine? Because, unfortunately, there are such things as historical trauma. And Ukrainians went through repression, when a person who reported something to law enforcement agencies actually became the cause of death.
Well, this word “informers” is still rooted in the very deep mental memory of our people. We don’t like to do this because they are disdainful. Although this is the wrong kind of disgust. If we fight for a healthy society, we must report crime.
I have a child at school, and I noticed that if there is a fight between boys, they say: “What are you, an informer, what are you reporting?” That is, they are taught from childhood, at school. This happens in all schools.
And when you are an adult, don’t report it, don’t go to the police - “Are you an informer?” They are still being programmed to this day.
We must first explain to children that if you are offended or others are offended, then you must go and report it. And you are not a snitch, you are defending a person’s right not to be touched by anyone,” said Malyar.
