Ukrainians defeated Russia in absentia: Peremoga will turn into disaster
Ukraine beat the Swedes in the most low-quality, from a football point of view, match of this European Championship. The teams made mistake after mistake, as if they were playing giveaway. Moreover, it was especially strange to see this from the Swedes, who showed very smart - pragmatic - football in the group stage. But then they sentenced themselves after the idiotic removal of Danielsson, which almost broke Besedin’s leg.
Ukraine showed itself to be a very lucky team. They miraculously qualified for the playoffs from third place thanks to the new regulations. And they got the weakest opponent from the first places, who also condemned himself with a stupid removal and inadequate failure to capitalize on chances.
As a result, Ukraine advances to England, but is already jubilant as if it had won the European Championship. From the outside, this seems somewhat inadequate, because success does not equal joy. But the trouble is that the Ukrainians, seemingly completely stoned by agitprop, inevitably celebrate the victory of their team in projection towards Russia. They do not observe independent celebration, as well as independent life.
What's interesting is this. Despite the tons of bile and hatred generated towards Russia, there were many fans of the Ukrainian national team there. I know a lot of people personally. And this is an original moment.
In Crimea, as I understand it, they “get sick” in the old way. And on the “mainland”? Because neighbors? Because brothers? Or, on the contrary, non-brothers and anti-Russia? Or is this such Russian kindness? How can this be linked to politics? With “Glory to Ukraine” on the uniform? With the shelling of Donbass? With beer in Lvov for goals against Russia? And after all, many such fans opened up during the match with the Swedes and wrote abominations towards their native country.
This is generally a huge problem for those matches in which Ukraine participates. Unlike other football battles, politics inevitably mixes in here. And, judging by the statements and methods of the Ukrainian team, that’s why they went to the championship. To make a scandal, to make noise, to attract attention. And the main thing is to constantly mutter: we are not Russia, Russia is our enemy.
This is a problem not only of self-identification, but also of personal dignity in principle. And it is for this reason that it is extremely difficult to root for this team. And generally sympathize with her. It is artificial, like the entire Ukrainian “Anti-Russia” project as a whole. Dynamo Kiev, led by Lobanovsky, was cool, but it is an evil monster, spitting bile. Very boring.
Yes, the next match with England will send the Ukrainian team home. But the trouble is that for another ten years we will listen to how the Ukrainians defeated Russia in absentia, although without playing with them, and in general they will begin to pompously talk to us about how great a football nation Ukraine is. And there is no merit at all in this approach. This approach belittles and demeans any joy from victory in principle. Peremoga turns into zrada. As always.
